Read the fibre composition

EU textile fibre labelling rules define recognised fibre names and how composition should be indicated. A trade name, “premium fabric” or a botanical-sounding material name does not replace the required fibre information where the regulation applies.

For multi-component products such as mattresses, separate cover, filling, foam, spring or structural information may be needed to understand the full product.

Separate material from construction

Two products with the same fibre percentage can behave differently because of yarn, weave or knit, density, finishing, filling, layer structure and manufacturing tolerances. Construction should be described alongside composition.

Confirm dimensions and intended fit

• Finished length, width and thickness
• Permitted tolerances
• Compatible bed base, frame or cover size
• Maximum load or intended user where relevant
• Roll-packed recovery or setup instructions where applicable

Do not rely on a category name such as “single” or “double” across countries without the actual measurements.

Care information supports longevity

Washing, drying, ironing, professional care, ventilation, rotation and storage instructions vary by material and construction. Follow the product label. A removable cover is not automatically machine-washable, and a washable component may have temperature or drying limits.

Treat comfort as subjective

Firmness, softness, cooling feel and support depend on the product and user. “Ergonomic”, “orthopaedic”, “massage effect” or pain-relief wording should not be used as medical evidence without an applicable product basis.

A more honest description identifies construction and intended use, then acknowledges that comfort preference varies.
